Every year, A.F.E.W Kenya organizes an environmental awareness competition. The competition runs between January and March and has been running for 24 years. This year’s theme was “Green Economy Our Future”. This theme recognizes that man’s economic practices have been largely insensitive to the environment from which they draw their resources and raw materials. With the realization that the environment supports the economy and in turn society, it is important that we all adopt sustainable practices hence promoting a green economy.

The competition through art, essay and photography gave the children an opportunity to reflect on the environmental issues that surround them and challenges them to seek sustainable options for improvement of life and the preservation of the earth’s bio-diversity.

On Friday 7th of June 2013, AFEW Kenya held its Environmental Awards Ceremony as part of the World’s environmental week celebrations, during which 163 students were be awarded for their good performance. The guest of honour was Dr. Wainaina Gituro, Director Social and Political pillar of Kenya Vision 2030.
